Last day of June Holidays

Dear children,

Haha is this how you feel right now?

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow after so long! We will be spending quite a bit of time together in the morning to re-organise and prepare for Term 3. It will be quite an exciting week next week, with many events going on.

There will be a new seating arrangement starting tomorrow, and a new timetable starting Tuesday.

Please be reminded that Enrichment will resume next week, meaning you have English Enrichment tomorrow and Math Enrichment on Tuesday.

Other exciting events:
4 July Thursday - Class photo-taking

Please ensure that you come to school in your full school uniform. Otherwise you will not be allowed to take the formal shot. I really wish to have all of you in the photo as it would be a very important keepsake for all of us. So make sure to note it into your diary!

5 July Friday - Math and Science Practical

As this is the 3rd time you are taking the practical, you should be familiar with what to do. Do not worry about the test items, as I will go through a trial test with you by Wednesday. As long as you are attentive during the trial and are careful during the test, you should score a full mark. (And I expect nothing less from you.)

Enjoy the last day of your holiday today!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

First day of Term 3

Dear all,

With the current haze situation improving, I am pleased to inform you that school should be reopening as per normal on Monday. Children with asthma, please be especially careful and do bring your inhaler along if you have one. If there is any updates, the school will contact the parents via SMS to alert you.

We will restart our newspaper collection, let's work hard together to become the champion class again in Term 4! It would be good if you can bundle up the newspaper with string at home prior to bringing it to the classroom. It will help the science monitors greatly. It is afterall, a whole class effort!

Please note that on Monday, you will be having your recess from 9am to 9.25am. I will be doing a top-to-toe check, so ensure that your hair and fingernails are neatly cut. Do bring along your thermometers as well for temperature taking.

Enjoy your weekend and get ready to work hard in Term 3!

Regards,
Miss Chan

Happy Birthday Karen!

Dear Karen, Happy Birthday to you!
May today be blessed with sunshine, smiles, laughter and love!

Suspension of School Activities

Dear parents,

As with MOE's announcement, due to the haze, all indoor and outdoor school activities will be suspended till the end of June. I will update you all again when more news come in.

Hence please note that the Cyber Wellness Ambassadors Programme next Wednesday and the Prefect Training next Thursday and Friday will be suspended.

Children involved in the Math Game Competition, please continue to go to MC Online Google Doc to work on it. We will not meet next week.

Everyone, please take care! Do use a mask when heading outdoors, even if it is for a short while. I hope you managed to get some masks.

Nim Game

Dear children,

Since most of you will be at home these few days due to the haze, now is a good time to start revising and clear up your holiday homework (if you have not already done so!)

Do remember to go to MC Online Portal to finish up the online assignments assigned to you there. Also do work on your Social Studies Project which will take up 30% of your SA2 grade. You are to create a song/jingle/rap/poem related to the NE messages. You do not necessary have to include all 5 at once. If you can do that, that would be great too.

==

Here is another famous Mathematical puzzle (some sort of logical thinking game) - Nim Game.
It is a game by 2 players, consisting of 16 matches in 4 rows, and 2 players alternatively pick a certain number of matches from one row. Whoever takes the last match, loses.

Here is an online version, can you beat the computer? Play the Nim Game online

There are many variations to the game, you can play it with other objects too. Maybe when school reopens, you can try this game with your friends during recess! Somewhat like chess, you really need to think ahead of your moves and plan well!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Hazy days

Dear all,

Now that the haze is really bad, please take care of yourself by staying indoors as much as you can, and use a mask if you have one. Especially for children with asthma, do be especially careful. You can find out more from here: NEA Website - Health advisory

For me, my eyes are very sensitive, so I've been having teary and irritated eyes. Even my small bunny fell sick. Hope the rest of you are luckier. =(

Try to drink lots of water and let's hope the situation improves before school reopens!

Yours truly,
Miss Chan

Popplet

Dear all,

In Term 2, we've used the online learning tool Popplet to learn about the problems in Singapore and the attempted solutions after WW2. I am very happy with how everyone worked well in a group and came up with impressive mind maps. The links of all the various groups' mind maps can be found attached in the Social Studies workbook.

Here are some photos to share our computer lab experience:

Now that it is the holidays, it is a good time for you to use Popplet to come up with mind maps to help you revise your science topics. Revision is very important for Science as you learn new topics every year, and yet you will be tested on all the knowledge you've learnt since Primary 3! Hence your foundation is very important.

Here is an example of a simple mind map I've created for my Primary 3 Science class on Plant System. I hope this helps you with your revision too.

Do share in the comments section with your Popplet URL link after you have created them, stating clearly the topic, so that everyone can benefit and learn together. It can be topics from Pri 3 or 4 as well!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Happy Birthday Yan Bing!

Dear Yan Bing, Happy Birthday to you!

May your birthday brings you as much happiness as you give to everyone who knows you!

Miss Chan

Doubly True Alphametics

Dear children,

During the March Holidays, I introduced you to alphametics, whereby alphabets were used to represent unique numbers in a sum. Today, I shall share with you another type of alphametics that is especially interesting. They are called doubly true alphametics. Reason being, not only do they each fit a unique number, the statement they make in numbers is true as well. Below is an example:

 THREE
 THREE
   TWO
   TWO
+ ONE
------
ELEVEN

3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 11 is true as well!

For those who solved the previous puzzle, the answer is
5 x 7 + 9 = 44 indeed (well done!)

Miss Chan

One week over~

Dear children,

How are you enjoying your holidays? Right now, some of you should be overseas enjoying your vacation. For the rest of you who are still in Singapore, you can start to do revision here and there so as not to get too comfortable with the long break and break your momentum!

Here is your 2nd Math Puzzle related to pattern recognition: (First puzzle was Sudoku)

Observe the pattern. What is the ?

You may post your answer in the comments section and compare your answers to your friends. I will post the answer when I post the next puzzle.

Sudoku

Dear all,

First let me congratulate Chloe, Samantha, Gavin and Irving! They are selected as a team to take part in the Sudoku Competition after 2 rounds of competing within the class. Do use the holidays to train and practise your skills in Sudoku. You may either buy a Sudoku book or use the website as a platform to train. Try to complete the entire table without any mistakes.

Here is a useful link you can go to to practise your Sudoku skills (even if you are not selected!). They have a new puzzle daily and of varying difficulty.

Daily Sudoku

Sudoku is a good way to train your logical thinking skills and it is fun too! Don't let your brain go rusty over the holidays!

Yours truly,
Miss Chan

Start of Holidays!

Dear children,

Do have a good rest over the next one month, but keep in mind to use the time wisely to put in more effort into your weaker subjects!

Over the holidays, I will be posting Math puzzles and maybe some random sharing to keep the blog alive and keep in touch. I may also post some backlog photos I've taken in class but did not get to update. Feel free to leave comments or e-mail me if you have any interesting sites or videos to share with your friends.

I've heard positive feedback from Mrs Baldwin about your class behaviour during the Use Your Hands Campaign. It is a pity that I do not have any photos since I was out for swimming with my Primary 3 class. However there is always next Semester. :)

Well done 5 Self-Discipline 6! Let us work hard in maintaining our lead position for the HIPS Superclass!

Happy Holidays,
Miss Chan
