A little update and FAQs

Dear all,

Thank you for being so patient with my lack of updates. Now is truly a busy time, with subject banding and results processing. I also appreciate your understanding when I return calls late at night.

I know many parents are concerned over the SA2 results and class allocation. So here are some commonly asked questions and the answers.

Is the Mathematics SA2 paper tough?
Comparing it to CA2 paper, I would say it is a little more challenging. That is to be expected, after all it is the last paper of the year, combining more topics for the entire year. There are also more questions which requires spatial-visual skills (due to the topics in term 4), which seems to be an area of weakness for some of the children. So it would be good for them to practise more of such questions over the holidays.

I also noted that the time management skills also need some improvement. We have practised sufficiently so far, each time for the revision paper where the class will sit for a mock test in class within the time limit, and also the 3 examinations since beginning of the year. Overall, I feel that the paper is a manageable one.

Is my child offered Higher Chinese next year?
In the event that he/she is not, Mrs Baldwin or myself would have already called you to clarify and to explain in detail.

For the others, do prepare your child to be ready, as it is indeed challenging to cope with all subjects on top of HCL, and P6 is a more demanding year in preparation for PSLE. I would especially advise those who did not score too well for CL or HCL this year (60 - 70 mark range) to use the holidays to revise your Primary 5 work. Likewise for children who did not do too well for your Mathematics, revise through your Math file this holidays.

Will my child be transferred out of the class?
Please do not worry, we will be promoting up to Primary 6 together as a whole class. As far as I know, there is no transferring in or out of the class. They will be re-banded during Chinese lessons. I am glad as the class has bonded well within this year and I believe they will stay strong in class spirit next year.

Are you following the class up to Primary 6?
Deployment will only be released at the end of the year, so I cannot say for certain. In the event that there is a change in the form teacher, please rest assured that I will communicate closely with him/her even during the course of next year to help him/her understand your child's needs and dynamics of the class.

If there are anymore questions, feel free to drop me an SMS (Sorry I have a high tendency to miss calls as my phone is always on silent) or e-mail me at chan_xiao_yan@moe.edu.sg, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Yours Truly,
Miss Chan
