Dear all,
We have now completed all the topics required for SA2, and in fact started on revision with a mock exam paper yesterday. By now, most of you are able to manage your time well for Paper 1. Keep it up!
A gentle reminder to all that next week (14 Oct to 18 Oct) there will be no school due to PSLE marking and Hari Raya Haji. Please make good use of the week to revise and prepare yourselves for your end of year exams. I will be returning your Term 4 file and Enrichment file this Friday.
Please revise through ALL Process thinking skills (PTS) from Term 1 to 4. Remember my strategy, re-try the questions you did wrongly on a separate piece of paper and see if you have grasped the concept. You have to write it out and solve it to fully know if you understood. It is also good to re-attempt revision papers and examination papers.
Now that revision period is here, you may find yourself overwhelmed with revision homework. Try to manage your time and stay focused. Do make sure to take care of your health and get sufficient sleep too. Everyone is on task so far, Well Done 5SD6!
Tomorrow is your English Paper 1 and Listening Comprehension. Do your best!
Yours Truly,
Miss Chan

Happy Children's Day!
Dear children,
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves yesterday during the celebrations! Especially the skit put up by the P5 teachers~ *sprays mosquito repellent*
Do be reminded that the envelopes for Children's Day Appeal is due on Monday. All of you are very fortunate and received many gifts yesterday from your teachers. Do your part for charity too and pay it forward by sharing your good fortune with other children who are less fortunate. =)
Just contribute what you can within your means. Remember, No Gift Too Small.
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Class Booth Success
Dear all,
Thank you all for coming by to support us today at the Carnival! It was a roaring success!
I was impressed by the generosity displayed, many of you contributed your tickets towards our class booth. It really showcases our strong class spirit! Way to go!
Thank you to all the volunteers who worked hard and some even stayed beyond their shift to help. You were all so enthusiastic despite the difficulties we faced due to location and space. =) Also thank you to the others who were not part of the helpers team but still came by to help out at your own free time as well!
You have all displayed our school core values of resilience, charity and sincerity. You have done me proud again. ^^
I know everyone is excited to know how much we have raised, I will announce it once I receive news from the school. What's important is not whether we have raised the most funds, but that we've all contributed to the fund-raising for the school!
Please drink lots of water and have a good rest tomorrow. Have a good September Holidays!
Yours Truly,
Miss Chan

Teachers' Day
Dear all,
First of all, thank you for the sincere well wishes and the little gifts of appreciation. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the classroom. I had a really enjoyable Teachers' day yesterday!
Though weather was not too good in the morning, we had a successful Walkathon after all and returned safely before the rain hits. It was leisurely to walk around the neighbourhood near the school and I think everyone had a relaxing time.
I am really happy that all of you are willing to re-do your Camp performance for me to share your experiences. I love your performance! The singing was soothing and harmonious, and the Gatsby twist was hilarious. =) It was also fun to play games for class bonding!
The concert organised by the Prefect Exco was really well-planned and interesting, I was engaged throughout the concert. =)
Sarah, Lin Min and Hong Kai had really worked hard for the entire Teachers' Day event, please do help them catch up with whatever work they had missed.
Thank you to those who voted me for the award Miss Happy. I wasn't expecting such an award at all. ^^
At the end of the day, the best present you can give me, is to show me and let me know that you have at least learnt something from me this year and developed as a person before you leave for Primary 6 next year (and I'm not just talking about Mathematical concepts here). You do not have to spend a cent. =)
Enjoy your holiday today and I'll see you during the Carnival tomorrow!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

P3 Practical Test
Dear children,
I am really appreciative and thankful for the help that you have given to the teachers and juniors during the P3 Math & Science Practical Test today. It was more challenging as the pupils are young, and this is their first time attempting the test but you all did your duties well and the whole event went smoothly. We even finished ahead of time as you were very quick with the setting and packing up. For those who are unable to join us due to your Chinese Supplementary classes, thank you for helping out in the hall before your lesson.
I am extremely proud, this is really a whole class effort. You have all displayed the school core value of sincerity, well done!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Visitors to the school
Dear all,
Here are some updates of what happened in the school over the past 2 weeks since term re-opened:
Senior Minister of State School Visit
On the very first day of Term 3, Miss Indranee Rajah visited our school and interacted with our children and joined us for lessons. We had the honor of having her in our English lesson with Mrs Baldwin in the Library.
She also had an experience of our school's kuai ban lesson with Sarah sharing with her the techniques.
Some of our children had an opportunity to have a dialogue session with her. From our class, we have Xue Qing and Levelle!
(Source of photos: Miss Indranee Rajah's Facebook page)
Visitors from Shanghai Shen Jia Men Primary School
Just last Tuesday, on the 9 July, our school hosted a China school and we had china pupils joining us for lessons! A big thank you to all the 9 buddies who took care and translated for the 9 pupils! (Unfortunately I was unable to take a photo of all the buddies with their China friends.)
A teacher from their school also conducted a lesson for our class, teaching the children about knots. It was really interesting wasn't it? I can see that you all enjoyed the lesson!
Some of you did really pretty knots! For the rest of you, keep trying and practising. =)
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Last day of June Holidays
Dear children,
Haha is this how you feel right now?
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow after so long! We will be spending quite a bit of time together in the morning to re-organise and prepare for Term 3. It will be quite an exciting week next week, with many events going on.
There will be a new seating arrangement starting tomorrow, and a new timetable starting Tuesday.
Please be reminded that Enrichment will resume next week, meaning you have English Enrichment tomorrow and Math Enrichment on Tuesday.
Other exciting events:
4 July Thursday - Class photo-taking
Please ensure that you come to school in your full school uniform. Otherwise you will not be allowed to take the formal shot. I really wish to have all of you in the photo as it would be a very important keepsake for all of us. So make sure to note it into your diary!
5 July Friday - Math and Science Practical
As this is the 3rd time you are taking the practical, you should be familiar with what to do. Do not worry about the test items, as I will go through a trial test with you by Wednesday. As long as you are attentive during the trial and are careful during the test, you should score a full mark. (And I expect nothing less from you.)
Enjoy the last day of your holiday today!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Hazy days
Dear all,
Now that the haze is really bad, please take care of yourself by staying indoors as much as you can, and use a mask if you have one. Especially for children with asthma, do be especially careful. You can find out more from here: NEA Website - Health advisory
For me, my eyes are very sensitive, so I've been having teary and irritated eyes. Even my small bunny fell sick. Hope the rest of you are luckier. =(
Try to drink lots of water and let's hope the situation improves before school reopens!
Yours truly,
Miss Chan

Start of Holidays!
Dear children,
Do have a good rest over the next one month, but keep in mind to use the time wisely to put in more effort into your weaker subjects!
Over the holidays, I will be posting Math puzzles and maybe some random sharing to keep the blog alive and keep in touch. I may also post some backlog photos I've taken in class but did not get to update. Feel free to leave comments or e-mail me if you have any interesting sites or videos to share with your friends.
==
I've heard positive feedback from Mrs Baldwin about your class behaviour during the Use Your Hands Campaign. It is a pity that I do not have any photos since I was out for swimming with my Primary 3 class. However there is always next Semester. :)
Well done 5 Self-Discipline 6! Let us work hard in maintaining our lead position for the HIPS Superclass!

Some gentle reminders
Dear children,
Process Thinking Skills
Please use this weekend to revise the Term 2 PTS concepts using the Math file that I have returned to you. I will be conducting the Mastery Test on Monday during lesson time. It is important to master these concepts as they will be tested in SA1.
Mini Walkathon Cards
I will be collecting back the walkathon cards during the Mastery test, so please remember to bring the card and the money on Monday. Do not seal the envelope if you are putting them into one.
SA1 Oral Examinations
Next Tuesday and Wednesday will be your Oral examinations. Please remember to check which group you belong to and make necessary transport arrangements after school. You must be present for for the Oral Exam unless you have a valid MC.
Classroom Cleanliness
The cleanliness of the classroom on Friday after school was so much better. I hope you can maintain and keep up with such responsibility towards your own learning environment without me having to constantly remind you.
Reflect and Learn
I may have been rather harsh with the class lately but it was necessary for all of you to improve and reflect on what you did not do so well. I hope you will really think about what I have mentioned about learning attitude and also your behaviour.
Have a good weekend and work hard! Drink lots of water and take care not to fall ill at such a critical time with your examinations around the corner.
Regards,
Miss Chan

Challenge yourself
Dear children,
I have spoken to you about this quite often lately. I am starting to see a lack of effort in some of your work, and that is really disappointing. As P5 is a year with heavier workload, some of you may find it harder to cope and hence decide to do the bare minimum. That is not the right learning attitude!
You all are very capable in my eyes. Have confidence in your ability and put in more effort to try. Remember our school core value - Resilience! Try even if you fail. Try a variety of ways to solve the same problem. Once you overcome it, enjoy that sense of accomplishment.
It would be more rewarding to solve a sum on your own (even if it is partially correct), than to leave it blank and wait for my answers. You will remember better if you are involved in the problem solving process.
Work hard! Your SA1 is coming soon, I have high expectations.
The weather is really bad lately, especially with the haze. Please take care of yourself and drink a lot of water.
Yours Truly,
Miss Chan

Think twice before you speak
Dear children,
At this age and technology, all of you are exposed to a variety of language and media. Some of you may think that it is 'cool' and 'mature' to use certain terms, or even vulgarities, but think again. It is impolite and inappropriate. A true mature person is one who is able to control and watch what he or she says in front of others, and be respectful towards others. I'm quite sure you can express yourself better using other choice of words.
Sometimes we act on impulses, in the fit of anger, and we say things we may not mean. However, the damage will be done once the words leave your mouth. What that may seem like a passing remark or insignificant to you can be hurtful towards others. Remember our class rule #5: Think twice before you act.
Be especially careful when dealing with others. Remember, do not say negative things to others if you know that you will not like others saying the same negative thing to you.
You may not agree, but do think about what I've said.
Yours Truly,
Miss Chan

Traffic Games
Dear all,
Though it drizzled halfway through the game, on the bright side, you at least got to try it!
I did not manage to get any pictures of you all in action as I was taking my lunch, but I was watching you from where I am. I'm impressed that most of you can really cycle quite well! Though everyone wanted to be a cyclist and motorist, it was unfortunate that we can only select limited numbers. However, pedestrians can also be fun in its way, after all you will get to explore the park with your friends. I was a pedestrian back in my school days (Oh yes, the Road Safety Park has been around for THAT long)
Here are some photos taken during the briefing:
Remember, fun and games aside, the information shared by the police officer that day was very important and useful. Always remember to keep yourself safe and sound, especially to those of you who walks or take the public transport home. I often notice young people who look at their mobile phones or text on it while crossing roads. Please avoid doing that, do not take the green light for granted, you should be alert while crossing the roads.
Have a great weekend ahead!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

March Holidays
Dear children,
I hope everyone had fun at the Sports Carnival yesterday! It's really a pity I was not able to join all of you.
I believed you would have received your Math files through the relief teacher on Thursday. Please file neatly in order and let your parents sign on the content page. As Review 1 was with me, we shall file it in Term 2 instead.
There are assignments posted on the MC Online portal for you to do your revision too. However, MC Online portal is down for these 3 days, and will only be up and running on Tuesday, 19 March. Do log in after that.
Enjoy your holidays! I will be posting Math puzzles on the blog from time to time for you to enjoy!

Prefects Investiture
Dear all,
Today was the Prefects Investiture for year 2013. We have many prefects in the class, and it was a really proud moment for all of us to see our prefects receive their badges and tie pins. Some of our prefects are also the Deputy Head Prefect, Assistant Head Prefect, and member of the Prefects Exco.
As prefects, you are a role model for your classmates and schoolmates and you must do your best to uphold the school core values of Sincerity, Charity, Graciousness, Integrity, Self-Discipline and Resilience. I'm very sure all of you are capable of doing that and leading your peers. Keep up the good work!
Please do let me know if you ever feel overwhelmed by your duties and commitments on top of coping with your school work. We can always discuss and work something out. This applies to the rest of the class who are not prefects too.
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Take Care
Dear children,
Lately quite a number of you seem to be coming down with a cold or a cough. Please take care of your health and drink lots of water. Get sufficient rest as well. Always cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, so as not to spread the germs.
Hang in there! You have one more day to go before resting over the weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Chan

Self-Discipline
What is self-discipline?
- Self-discipline is self-control and self-restraint.
- Self-discipline is self-reliance and independence.
- Complete their assignments
- Stay on task
- Wait to be called on
- Work toward personal and community goals
- Try again and again
- Ignore peer pressure
- Choose productive rather than destructive activities
- Control their tempers
==
It is always tempting to talk or to walk about during transition of classes, but you should know what is the right thing to do, without having me to remind you.
Rather than to join your friends or even be the one to talk to them, you should be reminding them to wait paitently for the next lesson. You may choose to read, or do your homework.
I will be watching your class and I expect to see improvement and better discipline than this.
Regards,
Miss Chan

Happy Chinese New Year!
Dear all,
Sorry for the lack of updates this week, I have been quite busy with work and preparing for Chinese New Year! How are your preparations? Do you help your parents with the spring cleaning at home?
Do remember what I've mentioned in class today, this long break is a good chance for you to spend quality time with your relatives and family, to bond and to connect. This is why there is no homework for you! (May I remind you that your enrichment homework given on Tuesday should be finished by tonight?)
When visiting, remember to receive your ang baos with both hands, and wish the elders some auspicious greetings and thank them! Do not open your ang baos in front of the elders too. It is not the amount that matters, but the thought and the blessings behind their gift. Always be appreciative and do not take things for granted!
Let's also wish Xue Qing and Carson a safe and fruitful trip to Thailand representing our school for Wei Qi! Do help to fill them in with what they miss in school when they return the week after next! Remember our Rule #1: Help one another!
Everyone, enjoy your long break!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

OktoLive!
Dear all,
Yesterday I accompanied a P6 pupil from our school to Mediacorp for a live recording on their programme OktoLive!
It was really an interesting experience for the both of us. (First time in a recording studio!) She shared her experience about this game Cyberonia, which teaches children cyber wellness tips through game play.
The programme also talked about how you should protect yourself from strangers online. Remember that you should not meet any strangers that you befriend online without the company of an adult, and never to disclose any personal information like address or mobile numbers to strangers online. You will never know who is at the other end of the computer!
Do catch the repeat telecast this Sunday at 1pm if you happened to be at home watching the television!
Regards,
Miss Chan

It was really an interesting experience for the both of us. (First time in a recording studio!) She shared her experience about this game Cyberonia, which teaches children cyber wellness tips through game play.
The programme also talked about how you should protect yourself from strangers online. Remember that you should not meet any strangers that you befriend online without the company of an adult, and never to disclose any personal information like address or mobile numbers to strangers online. You will never know who is at the other end of the computer!
Do catch the repeat telecast this Sunday at 1pm if you happened to be at home watching the television!
Regards,
Miss Chan
