P3 Practical Test

Dear children,

I am really appreciative and thankful for the help that you have given to the teachers and juniors during the P3 Math & Science Practical Test today. It was more challenging as the pupils are young, and this is their first time attempting the test but you all did your duties well and the whole event went smoothly. We even finished ahead of time as you were very quick with the setting and packing up. For those who are unable to join us due to your Chinese Supplementary classes, thank you for helping out in the hall before your lesson.

I am extremely proud, this is really a whole class effort. You have all displayed the school core value of sincerity, well done!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Youth for Environment Day

Dear all,

As mentioned during the talk yesterday, here are some activities lined up for the annual Youth for Environment Day:

Inter-class Recycling Competition
Do continue to bring your newspapers to class, it would be good to bundle them up neatly at home before you bring them to school. Remember the competition is next Tuesday, 23 April.

Our can tabs collection is going well, I have a huge bag of can tabs with me currently. Well done! We shall combine all our efforts and submit it this term.

Plastic Bottles Collection
Everyone must bring at least 3 plastic bottles for recycling next Friday, 26 April. Make sure your bottles are clean, rinsed and dried before bringing it to school. Do remove the bottle cap as well. Your contribution will be part of the guiness world record feat!

Everyone can do your part for the environment!

Regards,
Miss Chan

Think twice before you speak

Dear children,

At this age and technology, all of you are exposed to a variety of language and media. Some of you may think that it is 'cool' and 'mature' to use certain terms, or even vulgarities, but think again. It is impolite and inappropriate. A true mature person is one who is able to control and watch what he or she says in front of others, and be respectful towards others. I'm quite sure you can express yourself better using other choice of words.

Sometimes we act on impulses, in the fit of anger, and we say things we may not mean. However, the damage will be done once the words leave your mouth. What that may seem like a passing remark or insignificant to you can be hurtful towards others. Remember our class rule #5: Think twice before you act.

Be especially careful when dealing with others. Remember, do not say negative things to others if you know that you will not like others saying the same negative thing to you.

You may not agree, but do think about what I've said.

Yours Truly,
Miss Chan

Prefects Investiture

Dear all,

Today was the Prefects Investiture for year 2013. We have many prefects in the class, and it was a really proud moment for all of us to see our prefects receive their badges and tie pins. Some of our prefects are also the Deputy Head Prefect, Assistant Head Prefect, and member of the Prefects Exco.

As prefects, you are a role model for your classmates and schoolmates and you must do your best to uphold the school core values of Sincerity, Charity, Graciousness, Integrity, Self-Discipline and Resilience. I'm very sure all of you are capable of doing that and leading your peers. Keep up the good work!

Please do let me know if you ever feel overwhelmed by your duties and commitments on top of coping with your school work. We can always discuss and work something out. This applies to the rest of the class who are not prefects too.

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Self-Discipline

What is self-discipline?
  • Self-discipline is self-control and self-restraint.
  • Self-discipline is self-reliance and independence.
Students who exercise self-discipline:
  • Complete their assignments
  • Stay on task
  • Wait to be called on
  • Work toward personal and community goals
  • Try again and again
  • Ignore peer pressure
  • Choose productive rather than destructive activities
  • Control their tempers

It is always tempting to talk or to walk about during transition of classes, but you should know what is the right thing to do, without having me to remind you.

Rather than to join your friends or even be the one to talk to them, you should be reminding them to wait paitently for the next lesson. You may choose to read, or do your homework.

I will be watching your class and I expect to see improvement and better discipline than this.

Miss Chan

Happy Chinese New Year!

Dear all,

Sorry for the lack of updates this week, I have been quite busy with work and preparing for Chinese New Year! How are your preparations? Do you help your parents with the spring cleaning at home?

Do remember what I've mentioned in class today, this long break is a good chance for you to spend quality time with your relatives and family, to bond and to connect. This is why there is no homework for you! (May I remind you that your enrichment homework given on Tuesday should be finished by tonight?)

When visiting, remember to receive your ang baos with both hands, and wish the elders some auspicious greetings and thank them! Do not open your ang baos in front of the elders too. It is not the amount that matters, but the thought and the blessings behind their gift. Always be appreciative and do not take things for granted!

Let's also wish Xue Qing and Carson a safe and fruitful trip to Thailand representing our school for Wei Qi! Do help to fill them in with what they miss in school when they return the week after next! Remember our Rule #1: Help one another!

Everyone, enjoy your long break!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Winning is not everything, but the effort to win is.

Dear children,

I am heartened to see the whole class put in effort into the decorating our classroom given a very short time span compared to other classes. Please do not feel that it is unfair, as we have to be understanding of the situation and we did a great job anyway!

Remember what I told you, always focus on the positive.  That will make you a happier person!

Some of you expressed concern that we are unlikely to win the CNY competition, however to me, all of you are winners! I see so much creativity in your work, your designs, your ideas! I saw how everyone brought so many things till I have to ask you to bring home the leftovers. This is the whole point - the class bonding!

Some of you may disagree with how your classmate chose to decorate, or what our class motto and calendar should be like, but with 42 individuals (43 including myself!); we really have to learn to compromise and at the end of the day, everyone's unique ideas really add up!

Learning points from this experience:
- Accepting differing opinions and ideas
- It is not all about winning, it is the effort and process that counts

I shall do up the whiteboard tomorrow and share some photos of your hard work with all of you soon! =)  Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Cyber Wellness

Dear Children,

Today during assembly you all heard a very informative and important talk about behaving appropriately online. This extends to interactions on platforms such as whatsapp or SMS. Always be mindful about how you interact with others. Be gracious and kind.

Spirit of Caring

Dear all,

Now that we have moved back to our permanent classroom, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the girls who have been helping Ashley when she was on crutches.

A big thank you to Yan Bing, Jane, Levelle, Audryn, Lin Min, Sarah and Wan Cheng.

They really exhibit the spirit of caring and sincerity, never once complaining and always helping out of their own initiative. I am very heartened and proud to see that coming from all of you.

I think all of us can also learn from Ashley's resilience, how she managed school well and stayed cheerful despite her injury. =)

As for the rest of you, I would also like to commend you on how you helped out in one way or another, be it in the moving of the classroom yesterday or being understanding of the situation.

Keep up the good class spirit 5 Self-Discipline 6!

Next up: Let us all work together to decorate and ready our classroom for Chinese New Year! Bring along your decorations, red packets and blu-tack before Friday.

Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Sincerity & Charity Drive

Dear all,

Just as in the past years, nearing the Chinese New Year, our school would like to contribute to the local community by organizing a donation drive for the poor and needy of the society. This is a good time where we could share our joy, kindness and festive spirit with the underprivileged through making a meaningful donation for a good cause.

For the next 3 days, donations will be collected from the classes. Please put your donations into a red packet and seal it. A teacher will be coming by our classroom with a box for you to place your donations.

Remember, no gift too small. You do not have to contribute a lot, but just within your own means.

You may still be young, but you can play your part to make a difference in someone's life.

Regards,
Miss Chan

No Gift Too Small

Dear children,
Our school theme for the year is No Gift Too Small.
Video on The Giving Tree:

The concept of giving is revealed as the tree gives to the boy throughout their journey of life. In spite of receiving nothing in return, the simple act of giving to the one that she loves makes the tree happy.

Giving should be from the heart; unconditional. And what you get in return, is joy.

Your homework for this weekend is to write a simple reflection. Think about what we discussed in class. What does the school theme mean to you?

 Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan
