Dear all,
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, Term 4 is quite a hectic term. 2 more days to the end of PSLE! Thank you children for being considerate for the P6s and being so tolerant of our shift in classroom and keeping your noise level low at all times.
Please be reminded that Math Enrichment will still be on tomorrow. We will be having our lessons in the Math Room. We will also be having our final assessment for Social Studies tomorrow using board games as a form of alternative assessment.
==
From my observation, everyone is quite proficient in the use and reading of their protractors. If you require more practice, this is a site you may go to: Measuring Angles
(Click on the small "rotate" circle to turn the protractor)
Remember, only when the question states MEASURE, then you may use the protractor to get your answer. Otherwise you would have to solve the question using the properties we have learnt.
==
We are almost at the end of all our P5 topics and P.T.S skills soon, then we will be ready to do full-scale revision for your SA2. All files are with you, so do start to revise your Term 1-3 concepts (especially PTS skills). Do not wait till the last minute!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Nim Game
Dear children,
Since most of you will be at home these few days due to the haze, now is a good time to start revising and clear up your holiday homework (if you have not already done so!)
Do remember to go to MC Online Portal to finish up the online assignments assigned to you there. Also do work on your Social Studies Project which will take up 30% of your SA2 grade. You are to create a song/jingle/rap/poem related to the NE messages. You do not necessary have to include all 5 at once. If you can do that, that would be great too.
==
Here is another famous Mathematical puzzle (some sort of logical thinking game) - Nim Game.
It is a game by 2 players, consisting of 16 matches in 4 rows, and 2 players alternatively pick a certain number of matches from one row. Whoever takes the last match, loses.
Here is an online version, can you beat the computer? Play the Nim Game online
There are many variations to the game, you can play it with other objects too. Maybe when school reopens, you can try this game with your friends during recess! Somewhat like chess, you really need to think ahead of your moves and plan well!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan

Popplet
Dear all,
In Term 2, we've used the online learning tool Popplet to learn about the problems in Singapore and the attempted solutions after WW2. I am very happy with how everyone worked well in a group and came up with impressive mind maps. The links of all the various groups' mind maps can be found attached in the Social Studies workbook.
Here are some photos to share our computer lab experience:
Now that it is the holidays, it is a good time for you to use Popplet to come up with mind maps to help you revise your science topics. Revision is very important for Science as you learn new topics every year, and yet you will be tested on all the knowledge you've learnt since Primary 3! Hence your foundation is very important.
Here is an example of a simple mind map I've created for my Primary 3 Science class on Plant System. I hope this helps you with your revision too.

Do share in the comments section with your Popplet URL link after you have created them, stating clearly the topic, so that everyone can benefit and learn together. It can be topics from Pri 3 or 4 as well!

Google Doc
Update: I have left my comments for all groups. I am quite impressed by some of the work done so far! Please continue to work on your project. I will check in again tomorrow (Sat) at night to add on comments to new work done. =) Keep up the great work!
Dear class,
Do not worry about the number of slides. I am ok if you exceed the slides limit. The reason for implementing the limit of slides in the first place was because I do not want you all to over-do and spend too much time on the research. Now that you have all came up with the basics on your slides, you may split up certain slides if it is too wordy or lack space for images.
Currently, I only have the PowerPoint from Groups 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9. I have shared the PPT with you on google docs. Please give me some time to look through and leave my comments. Meanwhile, you may choose to improve and work on it.
Group 4 slides are incomplete, I only have a few slides in the thumbdrive given to me. I've shared it nevertheless, you may add in your slides to the google doc.
As for Group 2, I do not see any Project work files in the thumbdrive given to me.
So groups 2 and 5 , please e-mail your PowerPoint to me at chan_xiao_yan@moe.edu.sg
==
For those unfamiliar with google documents, simply follow the instructions below to work on your Project Work this weekend.
1) Go to MC-Online portal via this link: http://www.lead.com.sg/LEAD/login/lms_login.aspx
2) Scroll down and look out for the "Docs" under "Google Apps" on the navigation bar on the left.
3) You should now have a pop-up window. Click on "Shared with me" to see your group's PowerPoint I would have shared with you.
4) Click on your group's PowerPoint, you should be able to edit your slides and also view my comments.
The file would be named "SS Proj Work - Group ?", and it would be shared by me. Please do not access the file shared by your group mates.
In the event that you have trouble editing, you may wish to upgrade your browser or use Chrome browser to access the website.
Regards,
Miss Chan

Alphametics
An alphametic is a peculiar type of
mathematical puzzle, in which a set of words is written down
in the form of an ordinary addition working; and the letters of the alphabet represent a fixed number.
A simple example:
B B
+ I
______
I L L
would represent:
9 9
+ 1
______
1 0 0
where I = 1, B = 9 and L = 0.
==
You can try solving this next:
A A
A B
+ C A
_______
A A A
I will release the answer in later blog posts. =)
==
Want something more challenging?
Try this famous first modern alphametic, published by the great puzzlist H.E. Dudeney in the July 1924 issue of Strand Magazine.
S E N D
+ M O R E
___________
M O N E Y
Can you solve it? There is only one unique solution!
The answer is in the link below, with more information on alphametics if you are interested in finding out more.

For those who are interested in trying the puzzle, you may draw this into your Math Journals or just a piece of paper.
Math puzzle 1:
Fill in the circles and squares with numbers from 1 to 6. Use each number only once. The numbers in the circles are the sums of the numbers in the squares on both sides.

Cyber Wellness
Dear Children,
Today during assembly you all heard a very informative and important talk about behaving appropriately online. This extends to interactions on platforms such as whatsapp or SMS. Always be mindful about how you interact with others. Be gracious and kind.
==
Be a smart digital citizen, S.O.R.T. before you click!
STOP and think about whether what you are posting is factual, accurate or would have any implications on yourself or others.
OBSERVE what's happening around you. Do you really need to follow what everyone else is doing?
RESPOND responsibly. What goes online stays online.
TELL and report any abuse or inappropriate content to the relevant parties. You could inform your parents or myself if you experience or witness such a matter.

If you want to find out more about Cyber Wellness, you may go to this site www.MediaLiteracyCouncil.sg

Order of Operations Online Resource
Dear children,
I hope you were able to complete the tasks assigned to you in class the past two days. I will go through the word problems on Monday by getting some of you to present your work.
==
Now that we are learning about order of operations, I shall share this Math game with you.
Unlike the usual questions which asks you to solve, the answer is given and you have to fill in the question. There are many different possible answers! It requires you to think backwards and also revise your order of operations. The questions get tougher as you complete them. Challenge yourself!
http://mathplayground.com/order_of_operations.html

Learning can be fun too!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Chan
