Do you know?

Dear children,

When I do discussions with my Primary 3 Science class from time to time, they will surface interesting questions that they may have related to the current topic, and I thought I may as well just share the fun facts here with all of you too. =)

We always see duckweed in our school garden pond, have you ever wondered much about these tiny beings?

Duckweed is a plant with roots but no stem. What many do not know, is that duckweed is actually a flowering plant. The smallest duckweed flower known in the world is very small, measuring only 0.3 mm! (1cm is 10mm)

That being said, the duckweed's flower does not contribute to the reproduction process of the duckweed. Duckweed actually reproduce asexually. For those who are interested, you may find out more about how a duckweed reproduce here: http://www.ehow.com/how-does_5262856_duckweed-reproduce.html

Science is all around us, never stop discovering!

Yours truly,
Miss Chan
